Health disparities affecting LGBTQ individuals in America most often arise from access-to-care barriers, such as a lack of financial/insurance resources, institutional discrimination, provider lack of knowledge about LGBTQ health needs and perceived fears of how they might be treated by providers. Hudson Pride Center’s community health programming seeks to change these issues and help reduce the barriers to care our LGBTQ clients face. Our health initiatives help link clients with the LGBTQ-affirming healthcare they need, such as HIV testing, sexual health education, PrEP medication access and counseling, HIV program referrals and medication adherence counseling, transgender hormone/SRS counseling, and other health access supports. Our staff will conduct thorough client assessments of sexual health and care access needs during their first visit so we can help our clients to locate and obtain the resources they need to live the healthiest, happiest, and safest lives possible!
Hudson Pride Center offers support for individuals who are HIV positive or do not know their status by providing access to free HIV testing and linkage to resources and services related to HIV care, such as making referrals for HIV medical case management or to experienced HIV care providers, providing individual HIV adherence counseling or helping with health insurance enrollments. HPC also provides educational presentations for HIV awareness to both consumers and professionals throughout New Jersey.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is the use of daily medication to prevent HIV infection among individuals at highest risk of HIV infection who may benefit from the use of additional HIV prevention methods beyond traditional safer sex practices. Hudson Pride Center will assess PrEP eligibility for interested clients, link them to HIV testing, and provide assistance with medication and care provider access as well as on-going adherence counseling and prevention education. Bus passes and gift cards will be available to program participants.
Hudson Pride Center provides limited (4-session) supportive counseling with a social worker, referrals to community mental health counseling partners for continued LGBTQ-affirming counseling needs, referrals to collaborative LGBTQ supportive programs, on-site peer support groups for LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ seniors, Transgender individuals and gay/bisexual adult men and women’s outreach services and social programming.
Hudson Pride Center provides Trans-specific counseling to assist clients with accessing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or gender re-affirming surgery, name and gender marker change assistance, connections to legal assistance, and community health advocacy and education throughout New Jersey.
