Alfredo Lisboa, Hudson Pride’s bilingual Latino PrEP Counselor, first joined the client services team in December of 2018, but he has been a community member of the Center since 2016, having found a home and safe space to discover more about himself in his coming out journey. In his role as a Latino PrEP Counselor, Alfredo is responsible for engaging Latino gay and bisexual men in conversations about safer sex, HIV testing and taking PrEP as a way to prevent HIV transmission, all difficult topics to discuss when HIV stigma remains so pervasive within many Latino communities throughout Hudson County. As the first and only state-funded PrEP Counselor dedicated to serving the gay and bisexual Latino male community in Hudson County, Alfredo uses both live and social media outreach activities to identify and educate his community about the benefits of PrEP and he provides linkage to PrEP medical care and PrEP Counseling to those at high risk of HIV from Hudson Pride’s satellite office space at the North Hudson Community Action Corporation’s Union City Health Center.

Prior to joining Hudson Pride, Alfredo worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens Pharmacy in downtown Jersey City, where he helped under-insured customers access programs to obtain free or low-cost PrEP medications and he has brought that knowledge with him to his role as a PrEP Counselor at Hudson Pride. Alfredo originally hails from Venezuela but now lives in Jersey City.
